European Quarter Solar Alignment

Robert Schuman is considered one of the founding fathers of the EU, because he delivered his famous 'Schuman Declaration' on 9 May 1950 that envisaged the intertwining of the French and German coal and steel industries. Such cooperation would render any idea of going to war obsolete. This idea was transformed into the Treaty establishing a European Coal and Steel Community that was signed on 18 April 1951 in Paris, also referred to as the Treaty of Paris.

A buste of Robert Schuman is placed at the entrance to the Parc du Cinquantenaire with his face 'looking' in the direction of the Rue de la Loi, the main street in the European Quarter that runs from the Parc du Cinquantenaire to the Parc de Bruxelles. As you can see, I took some pictures to prove that each year on 18 April Robert Schuman watches the sun set in alignment with the Rue de la Loi. What a wonderful solar alignment!
